Take Shape for Life, Coach Amy Lacey
We're a small photography business in a smallish town - we share people's life events. It's a given. We are a part of weddings, new babies, childhood, young adulthood, graduations, new business adventures, and all of the life that is packed in during the days and years between. In the past months, we've witnessed one of our closest family friends take an amazing new lease on life. Utilizing "Take Shape for Life" with coach Amy Lacey, Diane is down 118.25 lbs. A few months ago, she was down 84 lbs and she fit back into her wedding dress, so we scheduled a photo shoot. We thought we had amazing images. Little did we know. Last week, we retook the pictures since she was down so much more weight. Now the dress had to be pinned too many times to count and it practically fell off of her. This "after" picture will grace the walls of Amy's office and website to motivate and encourage those that want to follow her footsteps on their own weight loss journey. Diane - you rock!

Outdoor Studio - This weekend's sneak peak
We are beyond fortunate to have access to our outdoor studio right now. We can tie in formal studio shots with a beautiful outdoor setting as well. It's the best of both worlds. Here's an image from yesterday's senior portrait shoot. Hard to believe they accomplished this and the formal tuxedo shot in an hour shoot.

Taylor and Josie
We are knee deep in our "spring pictures" for schools around town. This time of year, we set up an outdoor portrait shoot, get everyone's picture taken and send proof images home with an order form for each child. Parents get to see the images before they buy them, and we get to add in a little creativity to the standard "school picture". When the weather cooperates, it's one of our favorite times of the year. These images are from "Stepping Stones", a fabulous preschool and day care in Chico. With Spring Break this week, we had fun with all of the kids from infants to school age. And Josie, the faithful black lab, jumped in with Taylor for some of our new favorite pictures!

Can we bring our dog on the photo shoot? The answer is YES! Provided we are shooting in a dog friendly environment, Mark thoroughly enjoys throwing a four legged friend into the mix. Pets are part of the family, and add a whole layer of love to the images. Who wouldn't want a picture with their best friend?

Reflection

When I flip through our personal images from 2013, there is an obvious trend, more and more pictures from sporting events of our kids. Mark loves taking the camera out to games. We can share the images with teammates and so much personality comes through. And it keeps him quiet, which he prefers!
However, for this post, I collected a group of images that shows who they were in Summer 2013. In one look, I can see the girls' ultra long summer hair and tans that come even with obsessive sunscreen application. I see Kendal's huge hoop earrings, and Delaney's hair tie on the wrist. It sums up summer for them - outdoors and in the water as much as possible! I can see Mason's hair - actually styled as he figured out how to use a mirror this year, and his relaxed confidence as he is up for whatever Mark suggests - swimming in an freezing lake? No problem, sounds fun. Kendal's patient "yoga pose" and her full speed sprint up a hill, showing off her can do attitude and a love of running that she discovered this year. And then Delaney, oh so typically flying off a rock with no concern of where she lands, confident that she will be fine, while driving her more thoughtful brother INSANE. While I need a portrait of their faces every year, these are the images that I'm glad that I have. The first step in hiring a photographer, is to CLEARLY convey what you are looking for, and to be sure that they can accomplish it! If you are interested in a similar shoot, LET'S DO IT! Images are from Convict Lake, CA (just south of Mammoth Lakes) and Saddlebag Lakes (just outside of Tuolomne Meadows, Yosemite). Both are amazing family hikes. Convict Lake is around a 2 mile loop with a few swimming areas. The Saddlebag Lake area has various hikes, we chose a short ferry ride and a 5 mile loop that turned out perfect for all.

Dream Jobs
"If you can dream it, you can do it."
Caught in the hustle of everyday life with a family and small business, sometimes the "ah-ha" moments seem few and far between. Mark loves to take off on photo journeys with any subject that will tolerate him. One of the best is his brother, Matt, because unlike myself or our kids, Matt will just do whatever Mark suggests and is enthusiastic about it. Mason's getting closer, but there's still a limit to his patience!
One of their best trips was a winter excursion to Death Valley. Mark and I met there on a backpacking trip for Saint Mary's, and we've always specifically wanted to go back to the Racetrack Valley. Look it up, it's worth checking out. The pictures that came back from this trip are everywhere - we've enlarged them up, sold them, given them as gifts, and hung them around the house. Capturing people in the natural environment, doing what they love, is our whole new version of "lifestyle photography". And yes, Matt is an ultra athlete, so this is a great reflection of who he is.

Ben and Paige - November 9th, 2013
Joy. This wedding radiated with it. Even so often, an event comes together without us noticing the stress that is all to prevalent surrounding weddings these days. Whether it is fabulous planning or simply the personalities of the bride and groom, it is always a gift to be a part of the day. Mark is very talented and experienced in reducing the stress surrounding the photography on a wedding day, and it is a great reason to hire him. But for this one, he was off the hook!
Included here is a collection of portraits, reception and decor shots. We capture it all throughout the course of the day, guaranteeing that our clients receive the formal portraiture and the collection of memories that made their day unique.

Off to the Races!
Here we go, at long last - we are no longer the photography company that refuses to blog. As we looked back on 2013, Mark and I came to the conclusion it was finally time to jump into the blogging world. A couple reasons led the way 1.) Time is flying. Period. We have been so focused on building a business and raising kids, that it feels like we blink and a year goes by. Or 5 years. 2.) Mark is at a point professionally where we have thousands of images, if not hundreds of thousands of images, stored on our computers and people still call and ask what we offer. It's time to share!
